SACO — Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Barbara Walsh will read and sign her children’s books at Saco’s Dyer Library on Wednesday, April 20 at 1 p.m.
Walsh, from Biddeford, has written four children’s books, including ‘Sammy in the Sky’, illustrated by painter Jamie Wyeth. The book is a touching story about love and loss. Schools and hospices often use the book to help children cope with the loss of someone they have lost.
Other books by the author include “Rhoda’s Rescue”, “The Goose Lady”, and “The Deer Man”.
Walsh also wrote “August Gale: A Father and Daughter’s Journey into the Storm”, a true story about his Newfoundland Irish ancestors caught at sea in a 1935 storm.
The April School Break event will take place in the Deering Room of the Dyer Library, 371 Main St., Saco
In addition to reading her books, Walsh will talk to children about how they can write their own stories.
“Most of my books are true stories about special people in Maine,” Walsh said. “I like to encourage children to tell their own stories about members of their family or community.”
Walsh’s books will be available for purchase after he reads it. Signed copies of his books are also available at the Saco Museum, which is adjacent to the library, and at Trillium, 238 Main St, Biddeford.
