Made in Colorado offers a mix of locally made products for the greater good, meet artist Gina Klawitter and Maternity Sculptures.

Gina Klawitter’s art has evolved over her 40 year career in the Denver area.

“At CSU, I trained as a graphic designer, so I had a way to make money,” she says. “But I realized that I had to make art with my hands.”

After beginning as a painter, Klawitter turned to mixed media portraiture, which led her to perfect a proprietary process for casting a fabric sculpture of a model.

“It mixes three of my passions: sculpting, painting and collaborating with others.”

“It’s magic,” she said. “It mixes three of my passions: sculpting, painting and collaborating with others.”

Since 2017, she used the method to create works for the Colorado Ballet and the US Olympic Training Center before finding a client who wanted to commemorate her pregnancy with a fabric sculpture of her belly.

“I love doing commissioned work and showing people of all shapes and sizes,” says Klawitter.
